Pay Grade: The annual salary range is $70,437- $112,872 (at 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications, experience, and the placement criteria of Article 14 of the NICFA Collective agreement.

Position Summary:

Applications are invited from qualified individuals to instruct in the Health Care Assistant Certificate program at the North Island College Comox Valley St. Joe's campus. This sessional instructional assignment, up to 95%, involves teaching the practice courses HCA 145: Practice Experience in Home Support, Assisted Living, and/or Group Home Setting and HCA 155: Practice Experience in Multi-Level and/or Complex Care to a cohort of international Health Care Assistant students via a face-to-face and online delivery. Practicum placements will take place in a variety of practice settings within the Comox Valley, and may require travel. Applicants need to have access to reliable transportation.

The successful candidate will implement creative strategies in the preparation and delivery of practice activities; use initiative in providing documentation and follow-up with regard to student concerns and problem resolution; and, bring facilitation skills to management of conflict. The schedule for this assignment will be flexible to meet the needs of the program.

The teaching faculty of North Island College are responsible for implementing the College's vision, goals, and objectives as they relate to teaching and learning. To carry out their teaching assignments, faculty use organizational skills, inter-personal skills, and their knowledge of subject matter, pedagogy, and curricular design. In addition, they have a responsibility to serve as role models for students and colleagues.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Instructional: To plan and prepare learning materials for instructional environments; To use a variety of approaches and materials, as appropriate; To teach in assigned subject areas; To direct student learning in a positive, supportive, and caring environment; To be available to students regularly during scheduled office hours; To clearly communicate in writing learning outcomes; To design and conduct evaluations or appraisals of students; To submit grades in a timely manner; To maintain records of student enrollment and achievement.
2. Typical Professional Duties: To be aware of, and to work within, College educational policies; To contribute to the development of Education and Strategic plans; To advise the Department Chair regarding enrollment management strategies; To demonstrate knowledge of computer applications appropriate to the teaching environment; To maintain continuous professional development; To participate actively in College committees and activities; To undertake other related responsibilities as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

- Practical Nursing credential or BSN degree;
- Two years' experience teaching adults, preferably at the post-secondary level;
- Work experience in gerontics;
- Extensive experience working with Older Adults;
- A combination of education and experience may be considered;
- Provincial Instructor diploma preferred;
- Experience with Indigenous pedagogies and culture;
- Current registration with BCCNM (inclusive of Criminal Record);
- CPR Level HCP required.

Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

- Experience using a variety of creative and motivating approaches to stimulate learning;
- Ability to demonstrate effective team behaviours;
- Excellent organizational and time management skills;
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills;
- Experience with online learning management systems;
- Proficiency in the use of computer applications including MS Office.
- Valid BC driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
