Sessional Faculty in Practical Nursing

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a sessional instructor/learning centre coordinator for the Access to Practical Nursing (APN) Diploma program at North Island College. The successful candidate will play a key role in teaching theory, lab, and practice courses, as well as directing the operations of the APN Learning Centre by advancing simulation-based curriculum and faculty development.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nursing, adult education, and experience working in a Learning Resource Centre. They will be able to demonstrate effective team behaviors, support cooperative and effective working relationships, and contribute to shared team goals. Excellent organizational and time management skills are essential, along with the ability to plan and prioritize tasks efficiently and meet deadlines.
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
1. Teaching in assigned subject areas, including theory, lab, and practice courses.
2. Directing student learning in a positive, supportive, and caring environment.
3. Collaborating with the APN department to maintain a safe, operational, and learner-friendly environment in the Health Lab.
4. Developing and coordinating experiential learning activities and course materials.
5. Providing ongoing mentorship, support, and guidance to faculty and students using simulation learning technologies.
Responsibilities and Duties
As a sessional instructor/learning centre coordinator, your key responsibilities will include teaching in assigned subject areas, directing student learning, collaborating with the APN department, developing and coordinating experiential learning activities, and providing ongoing mentorship and support to faculty and students. You will also be responsible for maintaining a safe, operational, and learner-friendly environment in the Health Lab, ensuring operation of and faculty orientation to the Health Lab operations and equipment, and conducting timely remedial skill acquisition activities in consultation with course instructors and/or student self-referral.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong background in nursing, adult education, and experience working in a Learning Resource Centre. A minimum of three years of recent related practice experience is required, along with a current practising license as an LPN, NP, RN, or RPN with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).
A credential in Adult Education / equivalent or in progress from an accredited post-secondary institution is also required. Experience using a variety of creative and motivating approaches to stimulate learning within a distributed teaching-learning environment is an asset.
