About the Role

As Director, Accounting Policies, you will play a critical role in shaping the accounting policies and procedures of PSP Investments. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Reviewing and researching new International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and presenting your findings to the Senior Director for implementation.
  2. Guiding and coordinating the work of team members and external advisors in accounting policy analyses.
  3. Overseeing and providing training activities to internal clients on relevant accounting topics.
  4. Managing technical quarterly and annual reviews of PSP's financial statements, including those prepared for the Canada Growth Fund (CGF), to ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards.
  5. Leading external financial reporting related to CGF and drafting all related documents.
  6. Analyzing and reviewing complex investment transactions and determining the appropriate accounting treatment in collaboration with the Senior Director.
  7. Acting as PSP's in-house expert in accounting reporting.
  8. Managing and addressing ad hoc requests from business units while ensuring an integral understanding of operational needs.
  9. Presenting findings and recommendations to internal clients and/or senior management on the impact of changes in accounting standards, investment transactions, or business unit issue analyses.
  10. Leading and/or presenting the Accounting Policies Group's view in technical discussions with respect to accounting/reporting issues raised by internal or external auditors.
  11. Designing and maintaining accounting and reporting processes to ensure effective use of team resources.
  12. Acquiring in-depth knowledge of PSP's and CGF's business and investments to outline business transactions or events with an accounting or reporting impact.
  13. Establishing and maintaining a collaborative network with external peers to facilitate financial statement benchmarking and establishing market convention.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  1. Strong knowledge of IFRS, specifically those pertaining to financial instruments and fair value.
  2. Proven experience in drafting notes to financial statements and other external management reporting, such as the MD&A.
  3. Proven ability to learn and grasp complex technical information in a reasonable timeframe.
  4. Initiative and resourcefulness in proposing solutions to various accounting issues.
  5. Drive and focus on results with a client-oriented mindset.
  6. Ability to navigate a fast-paced environment with a high level of autonomy.
  7. Effective communication skills, both written and spoken, with the ability to communicate complex accounting information to a non-technical audience.
  8. Demonstrated initiative and curiosity to look beyond surface facts and conduct comprehensive, fact-based, value-added research.
  9. Attention to detail and rigorous approach to research, analysis, and documentation.
  10. Ability to work collaboratively, cultivating meaningful relationships with colleagues and clients.
