About the Role

We are seeking an Analytical Chemistry Specialist to join our team in Kamloops, BC. This is a 6-month contract position.

In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining high quality and output in the analytical laboratory by assaying production chemistry using established methods and schedules.

You will ensure analytical quality and adhere to safe laboratory practices while working in accordance with the ALS Health and Safety Program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate and maintain analytical balances according to ALS procedures.
  • Accurately weigh pulp samples within ALS established weight ranges and standardized work instructions.
  • Inspect prepared pulp samples for homogeneity.
  • Identify suspect samples and report to the Analytical Laboratory Manager.
  • Report all quality concerns to the Analytical Laboratory Manager including equipment or sample concerns. Correct the problem with assistance from the Manager.
  • Wash labware using correct lab procedures to prevent contamination of glassware and maintain a good circulation of available glassware.
  • Safely dispose of sample solution waste using correct lab procedures.
  • Prepare solutions.
  • Organize workload according to turnaround time commitments and daily statistics.
  • Assist others as required to meet workload and turnaround time commitments.
  • Complete required documentation including logs and equipment records.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment by following established safety rules and regulations and ALS best practices.
  • Report all safety concerns to the Analytical Laboratory Manager and participate in incident investigations when required.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Analytical Laboratory Manager.

Required Qualifications
  • Recognized diploma or degree in sciences required.
