We are seeking a Cloud Cost Optimization Strategist to join our team at Quantum Technology Recruiting Inc. in Toronto, Canada.

This is a contract position with an estimated annual salary of $120,000 - $180,000 based on industry standards and the company's budget for this role.

Role Overview:

The Cloud Cost Optimization Strategist will be responsible for establishing and managing our cloud cost optimization function. This includes collaborating with both the finance and engineering teams to optimize cloud spending, create financial transparency, and develop cost-saving strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop the cloud cost optimization framework, processes, and best practices.
  • Establish cost monitoring, reporting, and optimization strategies within our Azure environment.
  • Perform detailed cost analyses and provide insights to leadership on cost drivers, financial trends, and opportunities for optimization.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with engineering, finance, and product teams.
  • Identify and drive initiatives that reduce cloud spend without compromising performance, security, or scalability.
  • Set up cloud governance policies, implement cost allocation and tagging strategies, and create real-time dashboards to monitor cloud spend.
  • Assist with cloud financial planning, including forecasting usage, setting budgets, and tracking variances.
  • Liaise with cloud vendors to negotiate pricing, discounts, and review cloud spend.
  • Implement and manage FinOps tools and automation to streamline processes for cost management and reporting.
  • Educate and enable internal teams on cloud cost optimization principles and techniques.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in cloud financial management, FinOps, or cloud cost optimization roles, preferably within the payments, fintech, or financial services industry.
  • Strong financial background with deep understanding of financial principles, budgeting, forecasting, and cost allocation.
  • Proven expertise in Microsoft Azure cloud platform, specifically with Azure cost management and billing tools.
  • FinOps Certification or equivalent knowledge of FinOps principles, cloud cost governance, and optimization strategies.
  • Experience building FinOps practices from scratch or leading FinOps teams in scaling organizations.
  • Familiarity with cloud governance and security frameworks to ensure compliance and cost efficiency.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data, cloud usage metrics, and cost trends.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders across finance, engineering, and executive leadership.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with FinTech or payments industry.
  • Proficiency in FinOps tools and platforms, such as CloudHealth, Cloudability, or Azure Cost Management.
  • Familiarity with other cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) is a plus.
