Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Construction Health and Safety Specialist to join our team at OSCO Group Services Limited. This role will be based in Nova Scotia.

About the Role

This is a critical position that requires someone with strong health and safety expertise, particularly in an industrial/unionized environment. The ideal candidate will have relevant experience and knowledge of legislated requirements in applicable jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Safety Orientations and Training: Develop and implement new employee safety orientations and arrange additional training as needed.
  • Hazard Assessments and Job Safety Analysis (JSA): Assist supervision with Hazard Assessments and JSA to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Health & Safety Audits and Inspections: Conduct regular health and safety audits and inspections to assess the effectiveness of our Company Safety Program and identify areas for improvement.
  • Corrective Actions and Follow-ups: Recommend corrective actions and follow up to ensure resolution of identified issues.
  • Incident Investigations: Investigate and timely report all incidents/accidents (personal injury, property damage, near misses),
  • Toolbox Talks: Organize and facilitate regular toolbox talks to promote safety awareness among employees.
  • Joint Health & Safety Meetings: Participate in monthly Joint Health & Safety meetings and effectively communicate safety information to division managers.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Organize emergency preparedness policy and procedure (emergency prevention, preparedness, and response).
  • Return to Work Program: Assist in managing employee's return to work program on site to ensure employee recovery and return to work.
  • Travel Requirements: Travel to worksites will be required for this position.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Relevant Safety Experience: Relevant safety experience in an industrial/unionized environment ideally within the Construction Industry considered an asset.
  • Legislated Requirements: Strong knowledge of legislated requirements in applicable jurisdictions.
  • Professional Designation: Professional Safety designation (CSS, CSO, NCSO, CRSP) would be considered an asset.
  • Computer Skills: Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office programs.
