About the Technical Director Position

The Technical Director at Verndale is a seasoned leader and expert in digital experience solutions. This role is responsible for driving technical excellence across all projects and accounts assigned to the delivery team. As a key member of the leadership team, the Technical Director will work closely with other team leaders, including the Project Manager Director, to manage the delivery team and ensure successful project outcomes.

The Technical Director will play a critical role in shaping the technical direction of the company, working closely with the CTO to define department standards and decisions. This includes overseeing the development of technical solutions, ensuring alignment with corporate management's vision, standards, process, and practices. The Technical Director will also be responsible for mentoring Architects and providing guidance on technical decisions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaboration with delivery team leadership, project teams, and other technical directors
  • Responsible for the success, quality, and technical aspects of all accounts/projects assigned to the delivery team
  • Architectural review of all project technical plans and ensuring adherence to corporate management's vision, standards, process, and practices
  • Providing support to Architects with clients, mentoring, and guidance on technical decisions
  • Ensuring that the delivery team has the necessary skills to deliver on projects, including self-training and external training as needed
  • Responsible for budget requests, team activities, and acknowledging successes
  • Attending Q4 EOY reviews for all Developers on the team, even if they are not direct reports

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of digital experience solutions, technical leadership, and project management. They will be able to communicate effectively with clients, team members, and stakeholders, and have a proven track record of driving technical excellence and successful project outcomes.

Responsibilities by Project Phase
  • Strategic Planning (Discovery)
    • Infrastructure planning, SEO, and integrations
    • Frequent client interactions and technical discovery calls/meetings
  • Design
    • Collaboration with clients, attending design/prototype meetings, and updating feedback documentation
    • Feature estimates, technical documentation, and POCs
  • Build
    • Collaboration with clients, Architects, and project teams
    • Reviewing project metrics, mitigating risks, and attending health meetings
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in CMS and Back End Development
  • 3+ years in a technical leadership role
  • Strong understanding of digital experience solutions, technical leadership, and project management
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Experience in Content and Technical Architecture Design, B2B and/or B2C websites, and eCommerce/eBusiness Concepts
  • Understanding of commerce-related marketing and analytics practices, web application security best practices, and search engine friendly markup
