Communications Clerk

The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a skilled Communications and Correspondence Clerk to join our team. As a key member of our department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the flow of information between our department and communities across the province.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining a correspondence tracking system, setting and monitoring correspondence response service standards, and ensuring timely and accurate responses to inquiries. You will work closely with subject matter experts to provide informative and professional responses, and maintain a professional quality standard for correspondence issued by the department.
This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented and organized individual with strong writing and communication skills to join our team and contribute to the success of our department.
Primary Accountabilities- Develop and maintain a correspondence tracking system and set and monitor correspondence response service standards.
- Ensure timely and accurate responses to inquiries and correspondence.
- Work with subject matter experts to provide informative and professional responses.
- Maintain a professional quality standard for correspondence issued by the department.
- Review responses and assist departmental staff on required content for ministerial correspondence.
- Initiate draft correspondence and ensure responses are within departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Screen and resolve routine and public inquiries, organize and schedule meeting requests, and perform routine administrative duties.
The successful candidate will possess strong organizational skills, the ability to be flexible and handle multiple deadlines, and strong writing and communication skills. You will also have proficiency in computer applications such as MS Office and filing/retrieval systems, and experience in composing letters, reports, and briefing notes.
We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Working Conditions- Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.
- Typically located in a comfortable office environment.
- Much of the time is spent in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about.
- Regularly reads and interprets multiple sources of information, regular requirement to type, read and work on a computer.
- May experience pressure with deadlines and need for accuracy.
- Will regularly work on sensitive and confidential issues.
