About the Role


We are seeking a Trade Assurance Specialist to join our team at Seaspan. This is a 24-month limited term employment with eligible benefits and 3 weeks' vacation each year.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Review specifications, class rules, work instructions, and SOPs to determine trade-specific quality requirements for each contract.
  • Develop new construction and repair projects' Inspection and Test Plans for trade-specific systems, ensuring plans are implemented in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Perform daily in-process quality inspections of trade-specific work, documenting and communicating results to responsible supervisors.
  • Conduct accuracy control activities for new construction and repair projects at Seaspan Shipyards.
  • Produce and sign final inspection reports that serve as objective quality evidence for customers.
  • Inspect received components, mechanical and electrical systems, steel, and pipe.
  • Attend formal inspections with customers and regulatory bodies, documenting defects and nonconformities, and providing results to responsible supervisors and customers as required.
  • Collaborate with trade and area supervisors to enhance in-process quality.
  • Analyze procedures, work instructions, and forms for trade-specific systems, communicating results to respective areas and assisting in developing and modifying procedures, work instructions, and forms as needed.
  • Maintain quality files for trade-specific areas.
  • Conduct periodic audits of trade-specific suppliers to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


About You


We are looking for a qualified candidate with:



  • A diploma in a relevant discipline (Electrical Engineering or Geomatics/equivalent Surveying measuring background preferred) or Red Seal Trades Certificates.
  • Three to four years of experience in complex manufacturing industries or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three to four years of experience as a surveyor or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be an asset.
  • Techinical understanding of NDT techniques and their application to meet contract, regulatory, and statutory requirements for trade-specific systems will be an asset.
  • Prior Quality/Accuracy Control or Quality Assurance experience is desirable.
  • Formal quality assurance certifications desirable.
  • Understanding of the fabrication, installation, commissioning, and testing of trade-specific systems.
  • Proficiency in Total Stations, Laser Scanning, Laser Trackers.
  • Competency in Survey Software, particularly Spatial Analyzer.
  • Working knowledge of quality control and inspection procedures.
  • Ability to develop Quality Plans and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Technical skills including an understanding of quality techniques, their application to shipbuilding, and ability to read and interpret technical specifications and drawings.
  • Ability to read material test reports and understand chemical/physical requirements for steel.
  • Strong communication skills and customer service focus.
  • Technical writing skills.
  • Advanced computer skills including Outlook/Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Visio/SharePoint/AutoCAD/Rhinoceros.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and problem-solve.
  • Good judgment and reasoning skills.
  • Ability to work with limited direction.
  • Ability to travel to Victoria Shipyards on occasion.
