Job Summary

Fraser Health Authority is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Site Leader to oversee and coordinate the delivery of direct patient/resident care at the Regional Hospitals after hours, on weekends, and/or as assigned. This leadership role requires strong supervisory and administrative skills, as well as the ability to make critical decisions and solve complex problems that impact patient/resident care and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Oversee and coordinate the delivery of direct patient/resident care at the Regional Hospitals after hours, on weekends, and/or as assigned.
  2. Direct Patient Care Coordinators (PCCs) and/or Charge Nurses and coordinate appropriate patient/resident placement and/or discharge needs.
  3. Liaise with the Access Coordinator and BC Bedline to facilitate patient/resident transfers.
  4. Assess critical situations and make decisions on course of action, including bed utilization and authorization of bed openings.
  5. Ensure that appropriate resources are available, including staffing, to provide safe care.
  6. Liaise and collaborate with Staffing Office to ensure optimal staffing levels are maintained and the use of overtime is effectively monitored.
  7. Interviews, selects, and supervises staff, delegates work, and provides input to Managers for performance appraisals.
  8. Investigate and resolve staff issues in accordance with collective agreement provisions and hospital policies.
  9. Attend to problem/conflict situations, customer service/client relations issues, and facilitate successful resolution.
  10. Ensure there is appropriate follow-up to the contingency staffing plan in clinical areas and communicate concerns/issues to the Manager(s), Clinical Operations.
  11. Accountable for the optimal use of patient/resident care resources and identifies opportunities for improved utilization of resources.
  12. Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, procedures, protocols, and standards related to patient care.
  13. Identify quality improvement opportunities and promote continuous quality improvement activities.
  14. Promote and monitor safe work practices and enforcement of health & safety requirements.
  15. Implement safety, fire prevention, and evacuation procedures as required.
  16. Collaborate with managers/educators to provide opportunities for continuous learning to ensure staff remain current with best practices in accordance with established standards.
  17. Promote research-based practice by collaborating with others and promoting staff awareness and involvement in research activities.
  18. Participate on designated local and regional program and professional committees as assigned.
Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an approved School of Nursing.

Five (5) years' recent, relevant, acute care experience, including a minimum of two (2) years' experience in a supervisory and/or administrative capacity or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Comprehensive knowledge of nursing theory and evidence-based practice.

Comprehensive knowledge of health care disciplines and their role within health care.

Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in a continuously changing environment.

Demonstrated ability to supervise, lead, and provide work direction.

Demonstrated ability to teach and facilitate learning of staff and/or patients/families.

Demonstrated ability to role model.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking skills, problem solve, and deal with conflict situations.

Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with patients, families, the public, medical staff, and members of interdisciplinary teams.

Ability to operate related equipment, including proven ability to utilize computer technology.

Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
