Director, Financial Accounting and Business Operations

About the Role
Cedar Leaf Capital, a subsidiary of Scotiabank, is seeking a highly skilled Director, Financial Accounting and Business Support to join their team. As a key member of the organization, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the firm's financial results, as well as providing effective leadership and management of all aspects of the firm's audited regulatory and statutory financial statements and tax-related filings and audits.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain policies and procedures to ensure timely, complete, and accurate regulatory compliance financial records
- Stay current with new and emerging regulations and best practices, and update policies and procedures as needed
- Provide professional advice and support to the trading desk with front office initiatives and deployment of business strategies, while ensuring compliance with regulatory, statutory, and tax requirements
- Ensure the integrity and timely filing of monthly and annual financial information, both regulatory and statutory, and as included in Scotiabank's overall reporting
- Manage and oversee Cedar Leaf's business operations and internal controls to support risk culture and relevant risk appetite frameworks and limits
- Safeguard Cedar Leaf and Scotiabank's assets and reputation by ensuring control mechanisms are in place to identify and mitigate risk
Requirements
- Strong technical skills and extensive knowledge of the investment business, particularly in a debt capital raising capacity
- Trade life-cycle experience, including monitoring the settlement of trades and managing the deployment and implementation of a Third-party Carrying Broker platform
- Ability to manage banking operations, including cash management
- Strong leadership, motivational, and people skills, with continuous interactions with Executive Management and various Global Banking and Markets and Scotiabank executives
- Good understanding of Financial Accounting and CRA tax requirements
- Strategic thinking, excellent analytical skills, and decision-making abilities, with a results-oriented approach to deal with new and unique challenges
