Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Surfacing Lead to join our team at Reel FX Creative Studios. As a Surfacing Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing the surfacing team and ensuring consistent workflow and pipeline processes are followed.

Responsibilities:

  • Train and mentor new hires to ensure they have the necessary skills to succeed in the role.
  • Collaborate with other departments to troubleshoot creative and technical issues.
  • Ensure artists adhere to pipeline processes such as naming conventions, file management, and render protocols.
  • Develop and implement textures and shaders in Unreal Engine.
  • Contribute to the design, creation, and implementation of textures and shaders in differing art styles.
  • Paint texture maps and images both from scratch and by utilizing photography and pre-existing textures.
  • Create efficient UV layouts.
  • Build foundational shaders for the surfacing team to utilize in production.
  • Work closely with the supervisors and help implement feedback and pipeline changes.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in Feature Film, Commercial, and/or Video Game production.
  • Great communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Positive attitude and work ethic.
  • Experience with Maya and Unreal Engine, or other render packages.
  • Good artistic eye for detail with ability to match different art references.
  • Familiarity with polygonal surfacing and UV layout.
  • Extensive experience in Substance Painter or similar 3D painting package.
  • Experience in Mari, Substance Designer, and/or Unreal Engine a plus.
