Job Overview

The Salvation Army is seeking a highly skilled Community Engagement Facilitator to join our team. This role will be responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating community-based programs that align with The Salvation Army's mission and values.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct community needs assessments to identify service gaps and opportunities in Winterberry Heights and the Heritage Green Neighborhood.
  • Develop and implement community programs that have been approved by the Corps Officers and supported by the Winterberry leadership team.
  • Recruit, train, and facilitate church members and volunteers to engage in community ministries.
  • Link community members to the church family and church programs where applicable.
  • Establish trusting relationships within and outside the church community, providing spiritual and social support, assistance, and encouragement to participants and newcomers.
  • Make necessary referrals to shelter, healthcare, professional counseling, spiritual, and religious care, and other relevant support services.
  • Recommend and assist in the development and revision of outreach program policies.
  • Promote Winterberry Community Church programs within the community through social media and other promotional tools.
  • Assist with Christmas programs, Christmas Kettles, and special events as needed.
Administration
  • Analyze program data, record statistics, write and submit reports, and prepare presentations on community ministry.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client and volunteer records using Salvation Army-approved software (Link2feed, S.A.M.I.S).
  • Propose new funding opportunities and initiatives, providing ongoing updates to the leadership team.
  • Prepare funding proposals to support long-term sustainability of outreach programs.
  • Maintain operational and statistical reports in a timely, accurate, and organized manner.
  • Develop and update promotional materials and social media sites.
Health and Safety
  • Ensure program areas are clean and hazard-free.
  • Comply with The Salvation Army's Health & Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Work in accordance with the Ontario Health & Safety Act and Regulations, using personal safety equipment and clothing as directed.
  • Report workplace hazards, dangers, injuries, or illnesses as required.
Qualifications and Education Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A 2-year Community College diploma or certificate in Human or Social Services.
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention training would be an asset.
  • A valid Standard First Aid and CPR Certification, Crisis Prevention Institute Certification, and Safe Food Handlers Certification.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms.
  • A satisfactory background check.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Knowledge

You will also require:

  • A minimum of two years of prior related experience.
  • Experience with community programming in a church setting would be an asset.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff, and volunteers.
  • A valid Ontario Class 'G' Driver's License, personal vehicle, and insurance.
  • Possession of knowledge and understanding of local resources for mental health and addiction services, housing, income support, and other support systems.
Salary and Benefits

This position offers a competitive salary of $50,000 - $60,000 per year, depending on experience, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, retirement savings, and paid time off.
