**Community Engagement Facilitator Role Overview**

The Salvation Army is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Community Engagement Facilitator to join our team at Winterberry Community Church. As a key member of our community outreach team, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating community-based programs that align with our mission and values.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Conduct a thorough community needs assessment to identify service gaps and opportunities in Winterberry Heights and the Heritage Green Neighborhood.
  • Develop and implement community programs that are relevant to the needs of the community, support the development of holistic relationships, and are in keeping with the mission and vision of The Salvation Army.
  • Recruit, train, and facilitate church members and volunteers to actively engage in community ministries.
  • Link community members to the church family and church programs where applicable.
  • Develop trusting, holistic relationships within and outside the church community, providing spiritual and social support, assistance, and encouragement to participants and newcomers.
  • Make necessary referrals to shelter, health care, professional counseling, spiritual and religious care, and other relevant support services.
  • Recommend and assist in the development and revision of outreach program policies.
  • Actively promote Winterberry Community Church programs within the community through social media and other promotional tools, making presentations to service clubs, schools, and other organizations as needed.
  • Assist with Christmas programs, Christmas Kettles, and special events as required.

**Administrative Responsibilities:**

  • Provide data analysis for programs, record statistics, write and submit reports, and prepare and deliver presentations regarding community ministry.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client and volunteer records using Salvation Army-approved software.
  • Propose new funding opportunities and initiatives, providing ongoing updates to the leadership team, and prepare funding proposals to support the long-term sustainability of outreach programs.
  • Maintain operational and statistical reports in a timely, accurate, and organized manner.
  • Develop and prepare promotional materials and update social media sites.

**Health and Safety Responsibilities:**

  • Ensure program areas are clean and hazard-free.
  • Abide by The Salvation Army's Health & Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Act and Regulations, using personal prescribed safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer.
  • Report workplace hazards, dangers, injuries, or illnesses in a manner required by the employer.

**Qualifications and Education Requirements:**

  • Completion of a 2-year Community College diploma or certificate in Human or Social Services.
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention training would be an asset.
  • Ability to provide or pursue a valid Standard First Aid and CPR Certification, Crisis Prevention Institute Certification, and Safe Food Handlers Certification.
  • Knowledge of Social Media platforms.
  • Must provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

**Experience and Knowledge:**

  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience.
  • Experience with community programming in a church setting would be an asset.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills, ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff, and volunteers.
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License, personal vehicle, and insurance are required, along with a current copy of a driver's abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion.
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of local resources for Mental Health and Addictions services, housing, income support, and other support systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn and be flexible.
  • Relationship building – demonstrated ability to build positive, productive, and supportive relationships with the community, clients, and other staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills.
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics.
  • Ability to complete assignments and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in working in a computerized environment, demonstrating strong skills using Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
