Job Summary
We're seeking a passionate individual to join our team as a Deafblind Support Specialist. As an Intervenor, you will work closely with individuals who are Deafblind, facilitating their interaction with the environment and empowering them to actively participate in their community.
About the Role
This is a full-time, permanent position based in Hamilton, Ontario. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people who are Deafblind, helping them to maximize their independence and engagement with the world around them.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one support and guidance to individuals who are Deafblind, enabling them to gather information and learn concepts and skills to make informed decisions.
- Facilitate access to information, providing sighted guidance and environmental information to help individuals navigate their surroundings.
- Collaborate with clients to determine their level of support and empower them to take an active role in their community.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including families, caregivers, and other professionals.
- Stay up-to-date with best practices in intervention and Deafblind culture, ensuring that you provide high-quality support to your clients.
Requirements
- Diploma or degree in a human services field or related experience working with individuals who are Deafblind.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and stakeholders.
- Self-motivated and flexible, with the ability to multi-task and work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Able to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Experience working with a diverse client population and willingness to learn alternate formats of communication, such as Two-Hand Manual and American Sign Language.
- Professional demeanor and ability to maintain confidentiality.

Estimated Salary: $65,000 - $75,000 per year, depending on experience.
