Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pharmacy Support Expert to join our team at the Alberta Retired Teachers' Association (ARTA). As a key member of our Member Services team, you will play a critical role in providing expert support to our members and pharmacy staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Member Services
    • Provide expert advice and guidance on managing pharmacy-related benefits to members, either in person, over the phone, or through secure communication channels.
    • Advise on complex transitions to the ARTARx plan, ensuring a seamless experience for our members.
    • Answer member inquiries and determine coverage eligibility for prescription and over-the-counter drugs, diabetes supplies, and intra-joint injectables.
    • Advise on Maximum Allowable Cost (MAC) and Least Cost Alternatives (LCA) pricing policy, ensuring our members receive the best possible value.
    • Work collaboratively with healthcare providers and patients to coordinate and review special authorization and conditional-lite (step therapy) prescription coverage requests.
    • Coordinate with claims adjudication groups to follow up on special authorization and/or coverage issues.
    • Advise on MAC and/or LCA exception requests, ensuring our members receive the necessary support.
    • Support the navigation of coordination of benefits with Government Seniors Benefit Plans for high-cost medications, diabetes supplies, and services.
    • Support ARTA members with escalated prescription medication coverage issues, either directly or indirectly through support of ARTA Member Services phone staff.
    • Conduct review and analysis of high-cost drugs for inclusion on the ARTA Drug Benefit List.
    • Report and monitor ARTA prescription pricing policies to ARTA executive leadership groups.
    • Provide meaningful engagement with pharmacy customers to improve member health.
    • Support the ARTA Director, Pharmacy Services, in their efforts to deliver exceptional service to our members.
  • Pharmacy
    • Support the achievement of customer health goals and business growth with superior clinical service.
    • Support professional practice at the fullest scope under Alberta legislation.
    • Receive customer prescription orders, gather necessary information, and complete relevant documentation.
    • Coordinate and communicate delivery or pickup of prescription orders.
    • Maintain accurate patient and drug information files.
    • Collaborate with pharmacy team members in the dispensing operation of ARTARx in accordance with ACP's Standards of Practice and Provincial legislation.
    • Perform technical prescription checks on orders prepared by another regulated pharmacy technician or by unregulated pharmacy personnel.
    • Ensure customer privacy in the distribution of medications and provision of clinical services.
    • Monitor and maintain prescription and over-the-counter inventory levels.
    • Perform pharmacy services at ARTARx that meet or exceed the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) Standards of Practice.
    Requirements
    • Registered pharmacy technician certification in good standing with the Alberta College of Pharmacy.
    • Previous pharmacy experience in community or hospital pharmacy, with experience in a central fill or mail-order pharmacy being an asset.
    • Strong interpersonal, decision-making, and leadership skills.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent customer service skills and a strong sense of professionalism.
    • Experience working with retired or senior populations considered an asset.
    • Superior organizational and problem-solving skills.
    • Computer proficiency in KROLL Pharmacy Management Solution is essential.
    • Previous experience with vial and/or pouch filling pharmacy automation an asset.
