Your Role:

The Patient Transport Specialist plays a crucial role within the Integrated Operations Centre at Alberta Health Services. This position is primarily focused on the safe and efficient transport of medical equipment and laboratory products across various departments. In this dynamic and fast-paced environment, you will collaborate with diverse healthcare teams while ensuring exceptional care for patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely deliver medical equipment and supplies to and from patient care areas.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals to coordinate transport needs.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations while performing duties.
  • Conduct routine cleaning of equipment as necessary.
  • Assist in patient transport and dispatch duties as required.

Job Duties:

As a Patient Transport Specialist, your responsibilities will include:

  • Transporting patients and equipment between various hospital units.
  • Distributing and restocking supplies throughout the facility.
  • Cleaning and maintaining patient care areas as directed.
  • Handling lab specimens, blood products, and patient documentation.
  • Reporting any supply shortages or safety concerns to management.
  • Performing additional tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent education.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must have completed valid N95 fit testing within the last two years. Certification in Basic Life Support: Health Care Provider Level (BLS/HCP) is required. Proficiency in English (speaking, reading, and writing) is essential. Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions is necessary. Candidates should demonstrate the capability to stand or walk for extended periods and assist in lifting weights regularly. Strong verbal, numerical, and clerical skills are required, along with good near-visual and auditory acuity, motor coordination, and eye-hand coordination. A reliable and cooperative demeanor with a strong service-oriented attitude is essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in a porter role within an acute care setting is preferred.
