The Municipality of Red Lake is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the role of Fire Chief and Chief Building Officer, overseeing all aspects of the fire department.

This key leadership position requires strong administration skills, expertise in firefighting and building codes, and excellent communication abilities. The successful candidate will lead emergency management programs as Community Emergency Management Coordinator, leading administration, fire education, fire prevention, fire suppression, leadership of employees, and rescue activities, fostering a culture of collaboration, communication, and customer service within the department.

The ideal candidate has at least 10 years of progressive firefighting experience, with 3-5 years of leadership experience, and must possess superior knowledge of current firefighting and fire prevention methods, including fire scene investigations. They should also have NFPA 1001 certification and IMS certifications (IMS100, IMS200, EM200, and EM300) or be willing to obtain them within 1 year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead overall operations of the fire department, including Suppression, Training, Fire Prevention, Maintenance, and Administration.
  • Create a collaborative work environment, leading, training, and developing staff within the department.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and assess plans and policies related to service delivery.
  • Participate in local and regional emergency planning processes and the Fire Chiefs' Association at the provincial and regional level.
  • Lead emergency management programs as Community Emergency Management Coordinator.

Requirements:

  • Valid class driver's license.
  • Post-secondary diploma in a fire service-related discipline.
  • Graduate of the Ontario Fire College Company Officer Program or equivalent.
  • At least 10 years of progressive firefighting experience.
  • 3-5 years of leadership experience.
  • NFPA 1001 certification.
  • IMS100, IMS200, EM200, and EM300 certifications or willingness to obtain them within 1 year.

Compensation: Starting salary range from $95,000 per year.
