About the Role

VON Canada is seeking a highly skilled Home Support Specialist to provide personal care and homemaking services to clients and families. As a key member of our team, you will work in a dynamic environment, collaborating with healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional care.

Job Description
  • Provide personal support and homemaking services to clients and families, adhering to VON policies and procedures.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of clients' needs and develop personalized care plans under the guidance of the Personal Support Program Manager.
  • Implement changes to care plans as necessary, ensuring client safety, liability, and financial considerations.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and healthcare teams, maintaining confidentiality and respecting client boundaries.
  • Perform various tasks, including light cleaning, meal preparation, laundry, shopping, and household maintenance.
  • Assist clients with personal care, such as bathing, dressing, and grooming, as directed by the Personal Support Program Manager or immediate supervisor.
  • Provide respite care and child care services to clients and families, as required.
  • Organize daily activities, prioritizing personal support and other responsibilities under the direction of the Personal Support Program Manager or immediate supervisor.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Certificate in Home Support Worker (Level I, II, III), Personal Support Worker program, or Health Care Aide.
  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate or CPR level C Certificate, if applicable to the work being performed.
  • High school diploma; secondary school education preferred.
  • CCA Certification in Nova Scotia.
  • Experience working with elderly or ill individuals or children, as well as some household management experience.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This role requires a detail-oriented approach, with physical activity including lifting, carrying, bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics. Individuals in this role will walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day, with some tasks requiring fine hand movements.
