Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at Hamilton Health Sciences. As a key member of our respiratory care team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and support in our intensive care unit and emergency department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide respiratory therapy assessments, therapy discharge, and care plans for patients requiring invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
  • Support the care and management of patients requiring advanced neonatal resuscitation and newborn airway management, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, and ABGS.
  • Assist patients with their pre/post tracheotomy care and needs, and liaise with medical specialists as required.
  • Work autonomously, making decisions and applying judgment in day-to-day work, and act as a resource to the cardio-respiratory department.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide patient-centered care and support.
Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Current General Certificate of Registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO) and in good standing with College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario.
  • Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care (CBRC) exam.
  • Valid BCLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Valid NRP certification.
  • Experience in respiratory rehabilitation, invasive and non-invasive ventilation, and oxygen therapy, and the application of ADP forms with the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.
  • Recent experience in Adult Respiratory Care in advanced airway secretion clearance techniques and difficult airway management within the last 3 years.
  • Recent experience within an adult critical care setting within the last 3 years.
  • Recent experience in Neonatal airway management and pediatric airway management within the last 3 years.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in adult oral endotracheal intubation, adult arterial blood gas sampling, and adult tracheostomy management and care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of respiratory care, support, and critical care management of adult critical care patients.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and maintenance of respiratory, resuscitation, and anesthesia-related equipment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and coordinator skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated creativity and innovation in the delivery of patient care.
  • Demonstrated excellent skills in communication, organization, and interaction with multiple healthcare team members and an understanding of other programs within HHS.
  • Demonstrated commitment to family-centered care.
  • Ability to provide respiratory therapy assessments and related education for patients, caregivers, allied health professionals, and physicians.
  • Postgraduate education/certification in Asthma Education and/or COPD.
  • Postgraduate education/certification in Intensive Smoking Cessation preferred.
