Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Disability Benefits Coordinator to join our team at OTIP RAEO. As a key member of our Group Life and Disability Claims department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth processing of disability and life waiver claims.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and set up new disability and life waiver claims, verifying members' eligibility and ensuring all necessary documents are submitted and completed properly.
  • Correspond with members, school boards, and union plan administrators to obtain outstanding information and resolve inquiries.
  • Update claim systems with accurate financial information for the Disability Life reserve feed.
  • Provide information and support to members, affiliates, and other stakeholders regarding claim status and benefits.
  • Complete follow-up tasks on LTD matters, including contacting members and other parties via letter, email, or telephone.
  • Manage the GL&DC telephone queue, handling inquiries from members regarding their long-term disability benefits and claim status.
  • Maintain a comprehensive log and diary system to track follow-ups, claim status, and other important information.
  • Review group policies and departmental manuals to ensure accurate application of contractual provisions and claims administration processes.
  • Prepare and process responses to members, unions, and school board representatives in accordance with established standards.
  • Initiate the new claim application process, coordinating, preparing, and distributing claims kits.
  • Responsible for the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) disability application process.
  • Ensure the confidentiality of LTD claim information to protect operations.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree or equivalent business experience.
  • Two to three years' experience in group insurance and understanding of policy language and application.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Superior time management and organizational skills to manage competing priorities, including project management skills.
  • The ability to communicate in French will be considered an asset.
