Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Specialist to join our team at the Nuclear Waste Management Organization. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and guidance on the design and construction of deep underground geological repositories.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical input to the design and construction elements of deep underground geological repositories, including surface and underground infrastructure.
  • Participate in the development and issuance of contracting documents and evaluation of contractors.
  • Manage contracts for conceptual design, detailed design, and field design activities.
  • Interface with contractors to monitor performance and ensure compliance with design basis and associated requirements.
  • Contribute to internal committees and tasks to gather requirements for design and ensure consensus prior to implementation of design changes.
  • Produce reports and documents on design status, work activities, and project status.
  • Represent the organization as a technical expert on repository design activities before government authorities and regulatory bodies.
  • Stay up-to-date with developments on proof testing and international developments for deep underground geological repositories.
  • Ensure all work activities and programs reflect an awareness of and compliance with applicable regulations and safety programs.
  • Participate in public engagement activities and perform other duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Requires a 4-year university degree in mining, geological, environmental, mineral, or civil engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer is preferred.
  • Requires at least 6 years' experience in the mining or heavy construction industry.
  • Experience with construction and/or mining practices and techniques, including design/CAD software and application of Ontario Mining Regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team and interact with external contractors.
  • Experience in project and/or study management, including plan development, resourcing, schedule tracking, contract management, risk management, and problem resolution.
  • Excellent professional writing and presentation skills.
  • Experience in mine infrastructure design and large infrastructure projects would be highly regarded.
