Job Summary
Mackenzie Health is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Extern Mentor Coordinator. This is a temporary full-time position that requires a regulated healthcare professional with good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and/or College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO).
Key Responsibilities
- Support the integration and onboarding of all externs at the organizational and unit level.
- Create, adapt, and deliver orientation and learning resources to ensure a smooth transition for externs.
- Support extern scheduling and departmental assignment to optimize their learning experience.
- Aid in the integration of team processes and role clarity to ensure a cohesive and efficient work environment.
- Maintain regular unit presence to support ongoing education needs and tracking of required skills and competencies.
- Provide ongoing monitoring and evaluations of extern role to ensure they are meeting their full potential.
- Provide mentorship, education, and professional development opportunities to externs to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Serve as a liaison between unit leadership, Professional Practice, and Operations to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.
Requirements
- Regulated healthcare professional with good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and/or College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO).
- 2-3 years of acute care experience required.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven attendance record.
- Excellent clinical skills and competencies.
- Outstanding communication skills.
- Previous experience teaching, working with learners, and/or precepting.
- Previous experience as a Clinical Instructor or placement supervisor.
- Demonstrated leadership, change management, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload.
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of infection prevention and control practices.
- Demonstrated conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrated computer literacy.
- Demonstrated understanding and compliance with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.
- Commitment to providing an exceptional experience for staff and clients within a challenging and exciting healthcare environment.
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the job.
