About the Role

The Government of Alberta is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Executive Director to lead the Forest Management and Wildfire Mitigation team. As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will provide strategic advice and direction on programs, initiatives, and emerging trends related to forest management and wildfire mitigation.

The successful candidate will have extensive senior management experience, technical knowledge, and exceptional leadership, communication, and negotiation skills. You will be responsible for leading a diverse team of government professionals and industrial partners in the analysis, planning, and adaptation of Alberta's Crown forest.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direction in policy development, monitoring, and programming in forest management planning, regional, sub-regional, and other Government of Alberta level plans
  • Lead the team in wildfire mitigation, biometric and spatial analysis, forest health and adaptation, provincial reforestation programs, and oversight of all litigation related to forestry programs
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with partners and clients, including indigenous and municipal leaders, and industry stakeholders
  • Ensure strategic policies and programs are consistent, effective, efficient, relevant, and aligned with the direction of the ministry and the Government of Alberta
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Extensive senior management experience leading staff
  • Technical knowledge of forest management and wildfire mitigation
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Business acumen and ability to solve complex interdisciplinary problems
  • Proven record of accomplishment in financial and budget management
What We Offer

The Government of Alberta offers a competitive salary range of $132,652 - $174,329 annually, as well as opportunities for professional growth and development. The positions are traditionally located in Edmonton, with travel within the province required as part of the responsibilities.
