Clinical Nurse Leader for Neonatal Program

Key Responsibilities:
The Clinical Nurse Leader coordinates staffing coverage and provides clinical supervision, guidance, and support to the nursing and support staff within the Neonatal Program. They utilize a systems thinking approach, consistent with established policies, standards of practice, and philosophy at BC Women's Hospital.
Key Accountabilities:
- Coordinate and supervise the work of nurses and support staff utilizing a priority setting and problem-solving approach.
- Coordinate the clinical functioning of the area utilizing a critical thinking approach.
- Improve performance and assure maximum utilization of staff through role modeling, mentoring, coaching, teaching, and ongoing development of personal and professional skills.
- Provide verbal and written input to the Neonatal Program Management team into the development, implementation, and evaluation of patient care standards and policies and procedures.
- Participate in both program-specific and hospital-wide working groups and committees in support of communication processes internal and external to the Neonatal Program.
Requirements:
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Three (3) years recent experience in Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care and related experience in a supervisory/leadership capacity, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- Demonstrated relationship building skills and ability to participate as an effective member of the interdisciplinary care team.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to patients and their families.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, facilitate, and manage change.
- Demonstrated ability to act as a professional role model.
- Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls calls for justice, and how they intersect across the health care system.
- Supports team members on their learning journey, ensuring education strategy for team/department to implement Indigenous Cultural Safety at a practical level.
- Works collaborately with appropriate Indigenous teams/departments to ensure ICS lens applied holistically.
