Strategic Corporate Attorney with Telecommunications Expertise

We are seeking a seasoned Strategic Corporate Attorney to join our team at Northwestel. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled lawyer with expertise in telecommunications and corporate law to lead our legal function.
About the RoleThis critical role reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) & Vice President, Corporate Services and is responsible for providing strategic legal advice to the executive and management teams on complex matters that impact the company's operations and growth.
The successful candidate will have exceptional interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a strong ability to negotiate and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expert legal guidance on high-profile transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and divestments;
- Lead internal investigations and respond to sensitive inquiries related to privacy and ethics;
- Develop and implement effective strategies to mitigate risks and liabilities;
- Act as Corporate Secretary to the Board of Directors, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and best practices;
- Collaborate with external counsel to achieve excellent legal representation, clarity of process, and cost-effectiveness;
- Supervise and manage the relationship between outside counsel and management;
To be considered for this challenging and rewarding role, you must possess:
- A Bachelor of Law/Juris Doctor from a Canadian common law university;
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in telecommunications or public utilities industries;
- Membership in the Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and British Columbia Law Societies (or equivalent);
- Strong knowledge of Communications law and specialized experience in corporate, commercial, and administrative law;
- Exceptional writing, research, and presentation skills;
- Ability to keep current with changes in the law and acceptable practices through ongoing professional development;
Northwestel offers a competitive salary range of $220,000 - $320,000 per year, depending on experience. Additionally, we provide:
