The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to join our team in the Department of Public Works. As a key member of our Highway Programs Division, you will be responsible for managing all phases of bridge and highway construction and rehabilitation.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct and oversee pre-engineering and survey work to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Produce timely quantity and cost estimates to inform project decisions.
- Perform efficient and cost-effective contract administration to ensure compliance with Department of Public Works' plans and specifications.
- Recommend construction improvements based on assessments of field conditions and contribute to the design of highways and structures.
- Supervise office and technical staff to ensure a safe and engaged workforce.
- Maintain good public relations when working with various agencies, property owners, the general public, and public utilities affected by highway construction and survey work.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and registration with Engineers Nova Scotia as an Engineer-in-Training or as Licensed to Practice.
- Technical expertise related to bridge and highway maintenance and rehabilitation strategies.
- Proficiency in a computerized environment, including Microsoft Suite and familiarity with software used in an engineering and survey environment.
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Public Highways Act.
- Experience managing budgets and an understanding of project management principles related to highway and bridge construction.
