Corporate Counsel, Generalist Expert

We are seeking a highly skilled Corporate Counsel, Generalist to join our team at Definity. This role will involve working collaboratively with various departments to review, draft, and negotiate agreements, as well as providing legal advice and guidance on regulatory compliance, intellectual property, and contract management.
Key Responsibilities- Review and draft various types of agreements, including templates, non-disclosure, licenses, professional services, marketing, corporate services, and lease agreements.
- Analyze and interpret matters related to the operations of a P&C insurance company, advising on legal issues, regulatory compliance, and negotiation and contract management strategy.
- Consult with other members of the Legal team and provide expertise to drive consistency in Definity's approach to partnering with vendors and other third parties.
- Participate in the continuous improvement of processes and systems for contracting and legal risk management.
- Provide assistance for strategic initiatives as required.
- Law Degree from an accredited law school (LLB or Juris Doctor).
- Licensed by the Law Society of Ontario to practice law as a lawyer in Ontario.
- At least 3 years of post-call experience drafting and negotiating legal agreements, such as strategic partnerships, vendor agreements, goods and services, software and other licensing arrangements, service level agreements, cloud-based services, and other technology-related offerings.
- Exposure to insurance or other financial institutions is an asset.
- Excellent communication, research, and drafting skills, including the capacity to communicate with business partners in the way they want to be dealt with.
- Outstanding judgment and ability to deal with complex issues and safeguard confidential information.
- Ability to perform under pressure, meet deadlines, and handle multiple, sometimes conflicting priorities.
- Willingness to build strong business relationships.
- Exemplary professionalism and integrity.
- Self-starter with a great attitude.
