Master Mariner Leadership Position

The Master Mariner is the senior management representative on board the vessel, responsible for upholding the best interests of Algoma Central Corporation in all aspects of their role. This leadership position requires a strong focus on safety and commercial responsibility.

This is a senior management position that is non-unionized. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the safe operation of the vessel, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and protecting the commercial interests of the company.
Salary: $80,000 - $120,000 per year
Job DescriptionThe Master Mariner will be responsible for:
- Overseeing the safe operation of the vessel, including the safety of the crew and passengers
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, including the Canada Shipping Act and Regulations, and the Canada Labour Code
- Protecting the commercial interests of the company, including managing costs and maintaining relationships with customers and stakeholders
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years recent experience working on dry-bulk vessels, excellent leadership skills, and a strong knowledge of Safety Management Systems.
QualificationsThe following qualifications are required for this position:
- Master Mariner (preferred) or Master, Near Coastal
- General Operator's License (GOC)
- GLPA certificate (preferred)
- Ship Security Officer (preferred)
- MED training with respect to STCW Basic Safety
- MED training with respect to proficiency in survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats
- MED in advanced fire fighting
- Marine Medical
- Personnel with Security Duties
