Job Summary
The Municipal District of Taber is seeking a skilled Light Equipment Operator to join our Public Works team. As a key member of our crew, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of light and heavy construction equipment. This role demands meticulous coordination with supervisors, adherence to safety and operational policies, and active participation in safety meetings.

Daily Work Activities
  • Coordinate with the direct supervisor regarding operations within the divisions.
  • Perform pre/post-trip inspections of equipment and report defects.
  • Adhere to M.D. policies regarding equipment operations and operator responsibilities.
  • Perform general service work on municipal equipment.
  • Operate heavy or light construction equipment as needed.
  • Relay instructions and directions related to work assignments.
  • Check and maintain all road signs.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety regulations and requirements.
  • Perform preventative maintenance of equipment and assist mechanics with inspections and repairs.
  • Attend meetings and participate in safety meetings.
  • Assist in short and long-term planning and improvements in municipal infrastructure.
  • Work with and assist employees in the Public Works Department.
  • Participate in training sessions specific to equipment operation needs.
  • Perform other municipal duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • High school graduation or GED.
  • Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance, safety regulations, and basic technological functions.

Education and Experience
  • Valid Class 3 driver's license (willingness to upgrade).
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of light and heavy construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of spray patching equipment and operation techniques.
  • Computer literacy and ability to communicate through basic technological functions.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Familiarity with municipal operations, road construction, and procurement.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of regulations and compliance.
