Job Description
The Light Equipment Operator, under the Projects and Infrastructure Supervisor, is pivotal in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of light and heavy construction equipment, contributing to various crews including road patching, construction maintenance and drainage projects. This role demands meticulous coordination with supervisors,adherence to safety and operational policies, and active participation in safety meetings, while ensuring the efficient provision of Public Works services to the citizens of the Municipal District of Taber.

Daily Work Activities Include:
  • Coordinating with the direct supervisor regarding operations within the divisions.
  • Performing pre/post-trip inspections of equipment and reporting defects.
  • Adhering to M.D. policies regarding equipment operations and operator responsibilities.
  • Performing general service work on municipal equipment.
  • Operating heavy or light construction equipment as needed.
  • Relaying instructions and directions related to work assignments.
  • Checking and maintaining all road signs.
  • Ensuring adherence to all safety regulations and requirements.
  • Performing preventative maintenance of equipment and assisting mechanics with inspections and repairs.
  • Attending meetings and participating in safety meetings.
  • Assisting in short and long-term planning and improvements in municipal infrastructure.
  • Working with and assisting employees in the Public Works Department.
  • Participating in training sessions specific to equipment operation needs.
  • Performing other municipal duties as assigned.

RequirementsEducation and Knowledge Required:
  • High school graduation or GED.
  • Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance, safety regulations, and basic technological functions.

Experience and Technical Skills Required:
  • Valid Class 3 driver's license (willingness to upgrade).
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of light and heavy construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of spray patching equipment and operation techniques.
  • Computer literacy and ability to communicate through basic technological functions.


Requirements
Education and Knowledge Required: ● Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent combination of experience and education. ● Familiarity with municipal operations, road construction, and procurement. ● Comprehensive knowledge of regulations and compliance. Experience and Technical Skills Required: ● 3-5 years of experience in Municipal/Public Works or environmental contracting. ● Supervisory experience in road and infrastructure construction and repairs. ● Valid Class 5 Operator's License or willingness to upgrade. ● Ability to coordinate Alberta One-Call and manage heavy construction equipment. ● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. ● Strong organization and leadership skills.
