About the Role

Brunel is partnering with a leading midstream company to fill a field-based Senior Health Safety and Environment Advisor position for a 12-month contract (extendable). This role will be based in Prince Rupert and involves a 2x1 rotation with camp provided on site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Report directly to the Projects EHS Lead and collaborate with the Construction Management Team (CMT), contractor supervisors, and workers to address and resolve health and safety concerns promptly.
  • Support EHS planning and execution for new and ongoing projects, including:
  • Developing and maintaining Project Hazard Assessments and Risk Registers to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Creating and updating Project EHS Plans and Medical Emergency Response Plans (MERP) to prepare for potential emergencies.
  • Providing ERP support (ICS200) and developing Emergency Response Plans (ERP) to ensure effective emergency response.
  • Conducting Site-Specific Orientations and onboarding to ensure new employees are aware of safety protocols.
  • Managing contractor performance and coordinating Health and Safety Management System (HSMS) activities with other employers on-site.
  • Coordinating and maintaining Project Joint Health and Safety Committees (JHSC) and Health & Safety Representatives, ensuring all activities and records are properly managed.
  • Assisting with or leading safety meetings and pre-job briefings to ensure employees are aware of potential hazards.
  • Maintaining and updating the Corrective Action Log, ensuring timely completion and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Lead or participate in contractor bridging and pre-mobilization activities, and oversee contractor performance.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations, Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) standards, Transportation, WHMIS, and TDG legislation.
  • Review and address Hazard Identification reports, Safety Observations, and Near Miss incidents, ensuring appropriate reporting and follow-up.
  • Conduct in-house training on company policies, programs, guidelines, practices, and procedures to ensure employees are aware of safety protocols.
  • Perform site inspections, permit audits, and contractor monitoring reviews actively to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Report incidents and lead or support incident investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Prepare for and support Emergency Situation Management as needed.
  • Implement and align with AltaGas' Operating Management System (OMS).
  • Communicate and promote AltaGas' Core Values and EHS culture within the CMT and among contractors.
  • Travel to various locations as required to provide on-site support.
Requirements
  • Previous experience on pipeline construction projects.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel to different areas across Alberta (AB), British Columbia (BC), and potentially other regions.
  • Proven experience in EHS planning and execution, including project hazard assessments, emergency response planning, and contractor management.
  • In-depth knowledge of OHS, WCB, Transportation, WHMIS, and TDG regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to reinforce safety culture and core values.
  • Experience in conducting training, inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Capacity to manage and support emergency situations effectively.
