Job Title: Controls Engineering Team Leader

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Controls Engineering Team Leader to join our team at ATS Automation. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of controls engineers in the design and development of automated assembly systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of controls engineers in the design and development of automated assembly systems.
  • Collaborate with the Applications Engineering team to support proposals and own jobs won from concept to through-life support.
  • Work with other members of the project team to develop a controls architecture that provides the required functionality, based on ATS standards and customer controls specifications.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of tools, methods, and modules to ensure standards are maintained.
  • Work with other teams to continuously improve methods and tools for integrating controls technology, driving enhanced safety and functionality.
  • Ensure that cost and schedule budgets are adhered to or improved upon.
  • Assign team members to direct labor activities.
  • Ensure that all work products produced by team members are acceptable based on functionality, adherence to standards, accuracy, completeness, and consideration for safety.
  • Approve material requisitions for projects assigned to the team.
  • Maintain labor, material, and schedule forecast information and any appropriate execution improvement plans provided to Program Management.
  • Ensure that scheduled milestones relating to controls engineering design and integration are achieved.
  • Provide primary technical assessments of team members to the department manager for performance evaluations.
  • Collaborate with Controls Managers to set goals and manage successful performance for team members.
  • Lead and mentor team members.
  • Review and evaluate new controls-related products to provide a cost-effective and up-to-date controls solution.
  • Work with team members, customers, project managers, designers, toolmakers, and electricians to solve problems and provide a product or service compliant with customer requirements.
  • Ensure that all employees under their direction are aware of and follow all Health and Safety procedures established by the Company.
  • Ensure that all employees receive job-specific training so they can work effectively and provide written instructions as needed.

Qualifications:

Education: A post-secondary diploma, degree, or equivalent qualification specializing in electrical, mechanical, or software controls technology.

Experience: Demonstrated experience in an industrial development environment producing controls for automated assembly systems. Proven leadership qualities, including good oral and written communication skills, ability to work with and motivate team members, and a willingness to take responsibility for key aspects needed for job completion. This includes hands-on experience in programming and trouble-shooting with current PLC hardware and programming software.
