Job Description

In addition to fulfilling the requirements of the Controls Engineer, a Team Leader's responsibilities also include the duties listed below.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide general supervision, training, and guidance to Controls engineering designers.
  • Collaborate with Applications Engineering team in support of proposals and own the jobs won from concept to through-life support.
  • Work with other members of the project team to develop a controls architecture that provides the required functionality, based on ATS standards and customer controls specifications.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of tools, methods, and modules to ensure standards are maintained.
  • Work with other teams to continuously improve methods and tools for integrating controls technology, driving enhanced safety and functionality.
  • Ensure that cost and schedule budgets are adhered to or improved upon.
  • Assign team members to direct labor activities.
  • Ensure that all work product produced by design team members is acceptable based on functionality, adherence to standards, accuracy, completeness, and consideration for safety.
  • Approve material requisitions for projects assigned to the team.
  • Maintain labor, material, and schedule forecast information and any appropriate execution improvement plans provided to Program Management.
  • Ensure that scheduled milestones relating to controls engineering design and integration are achieved.
  • Provide primary technical assessments of team members to the department manager for performance evaluations.
  • Collaborate with Controls Managers to set goals and manage successful performance for team members.
  • Lead and mentor team members.
  • Review and evaluate new controls-related products to provide a cost-effective and up-to-date controls solution.
  • Work with team members, customers, project managers, designers, toolmakers, and electricians to solve problems and provide a product or service compliant with customer requirements.
  • Ensure that all employees under their direction are aware of and follow all Health and Safety procedures established by the Company.
  • Ensure that all employees receive job-specific training and provide written instructions as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary diploma, degree, or equivalent qualification in electrical, mechanical, or software controls technology.
  • Demonstrated experience in an industrial development environment, producing controls for automated assembly systems.
  • Proven leadership qualities, including good oral and written communication skills, ability to work with and motivate team members, and a willingness to take responsibility for key aspects needed for job completion.
