Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Recreation Therapist to join our team at Baycrest. As a Recreation Therapist, you will play a key role in developing and implementing therapeutic recreation programs that promote the physical, emotional, and social well-being of our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement therapeutic recreation programs that meet the needs of our clients, including individuals with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, and other cognitive impairments.
  • Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure that recreation programs are integrated into the overall care plan.
  • Conduct assessments to identify the recreation needs and interests of clients, and develop individualized recreation plans to meet those needs.
  • Lead recreation groups and activities, including arts and crafts, music, and exercise programs.
  • Collaborate with volunteers and other staff members to ensure that recreation programs are delivered in a safe and supportive environment.
  • Document client progress and program outcomes, and provide feedback to interdisciplinary teams.
  • Stay up-to-date with best practices in therapeutic recreation and apply that knowledge to program development and delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Recreation Therapy or a related field.
  • Registration with the College of Recreation Therapists of Ontario (CRT(O)) or eligibility for registration.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in therapeutic recreation, preferably in a geriatric setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high level of flexibility and adaptability.
  • Knowledge of recreation therapy principles and practices, including assessment, program planning, and implementation.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.
