Veterinary Research Scientist Position in Alberta

A leading research institution in Canada, the University of Calgary offers an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled individual to join our team as a Veterinary Research Scientist.
About the Role:
We are seeking a motivated and experienced researcher to work on a project focused on antimicrobial resistance in dairy cattle. The successful candidate will have a strong background in veterinary microbiology, bacteriology, and molecular biology techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage laboratory operations and research projects related to antimicrobial resistance and infectious diseases surveillance
- Coordinate fieldwork activities for sample collection across Alberta dairy farms
- Oversee comprehensive microbiological profiling of bulk tank milk samples
- Develop and optimize advanced molecular techniques for pathogen detection in milk samples
- Analyze and interpret complex data sets to contribute to developing an effective antimicrobial resistance surveillance system
- Collaborate with Principal Investigators in protocol development, research project design, and grant proposal preparation
Qualifications:
- Professional degree in Veterinary Medicine (e.g., DVM, BVSc) required
- PhD degree in Animal Health required
- Minimum five years of postdoctoral experience in veterinary applied microbiology, strongly focusing on infectious diseases in dairy cattle
Salary and Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $32.69 - $47.33/hour, which is commensurate with the level of experience and qualifications. As a member of the AUPE bargaining unit, you will also be eligible for benefits such as health and dental insurance, retirement savings, and paid time off.
