BC Children's Hospital, located in Vancouver, BC, offers a unique opportunity for a Post-Doctoral Fellow to join our interdisciplinary team providing tertiary care to families and their children with cancer in British Columbia and the Yukon.
The BCCH Oncology program delivers diagnostic and treatment services through an integrated team of medicine, nursing, social work, psychology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nutrition, child life, music therapy, and spiritual care. Psychological assessment, diagnosis, consultation, and therapeutic treatment are crucial components of medical psychology within this team to meet the clinical needs of children and youth experiencing pediatric cancer diagnosis and treatment and their families.
This fellowship focuses on direct clinical service delivery, multi-disciplinary rounds, brief psychosocial assessments/screenings, and direct consultations. It also involves selected training, didactic, and research experiences. The successful candidate will contribute to departmental and organizational mandates and goals related to C&W's role as an academic health centre.
The Clinical Training Specialist position is a specialized training role emphasizing continued learning and training in a subspecialty area of service delivery or clinical population. Clinical service delivery is planned and provided in the context of the specialized learning and training goals of the post-doctoral fellow under the supervision of primary and secondary clinical supervisors.
Key Responsibilities:
- In consultation with the Head and/or Associate Head of Psychology and/or Director of Training, the Post-Doctoral Fellow plans and organizes the provision of therapeutic, assessment, consultation, and/or teaching services that align with the Pre-Doctoral Fellow's specialized clinical training goals.
- Develops a specific training plan, with measurable outcomes and time frames, to work towards training competencies in collaboration with primary and/or site-specific psychology supervisors and Program/Clinic Manager/Director (if applicable).
- Delivers a comprehensive range of psycho-diagnostic assessments and treatment services, including cognitive, educational, and social/emotional evaluations, and psychotherapeutic interventions.
- Documents assessments, treatment plans, and outcomes under the co-signature of a supervising Psychologist.
- Maintains currency in the scientific literature relevant to areas of specialized clinical practice and applies scientific evidence to clinical decision-making.
Qualifications:
Training at the doctoral level in women's, children, and/or adolescent clinical and/or developmental psychology, pediatric neuropsychology, or a closely related area is required. Completion of a CPA or APA accredited pre-doctoral residency (or equivalent) is also necessary. The applicant must be able to communicate and present ideas effectively, both orally and in writing, and possess strong computer skills related to report writing and data management.
We estimate the salary for this position to be around $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. If you are passionate about working in a dynamic healthcare environment and contributing to the development of talented professionals, we encourage you to apply.
