About the Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Mental Health Specialist to join our interdisciplinary team at Nova Scotia Health's Operational Stress Injury Clinic.

The OSI Clinic provides specialized mental health assessment and treatment services to clients referred by Veterans Affairs Canada, RCMP, and the Department of National Defense, who are experiencing work-related psychological stress and trauma.

As a member of our team, you will deliver mental health assessment and treatment services to Veterans and their families, working in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team consisting of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and an occupational therapist.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing education to various stakeholders, including VAC District offices
  • Maintaining contact with referring VAC area counselors, RCMP, and DND in the development of treatment plans and referrals
  • Utilizing OSI supported tele-mental health and other distance technologies in the provision of services in outlying communities
  • Working with the Canadian network of OSI clinics, following the leadership of the Operational Stress Injuries National Network
  • Carrying out OSI-specific research, including writing peer-reviewed grant proposals in keeping with the clinic and network objectives
About You

To be successful in this role, you will possess a recognized doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, registration or eligibility for registration under the Psychologists Act of Nova Scotia, and a CPA/APA accredited internship/residency in clinical psychology.

You will also have experience in the diagnosis and treatment of anxiety and mood disorders, substance use disorders, and PTSD using evidence-based approaches. Training in evidence-based therapies such as PE, CBT, EMDR, and MBSR is also required.

Additionally, you will have experience working in an interdisciplinary service delivery model, preferably in a military or police services environment. A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle are also essential.

Nova Scotia Health offers a competitive salary range of $56.46 - $62.74 per hour, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.

This is a permanent, full-time position with 75 hours bi-weekly, providing a stable and secure career path.
