Mental Health Outreach Specialist

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a skilled Community Outreach Worker to provide clinical services to adults and their families affected by mental illness and/or substance use or gambling disorder. This role requires a high degree of independent practice, excellent assessment skills, and the ability to implement an evidence-based plan of care.
About You- Bachelor of Social Work degree
- Registration with a professional regulatory body
- One year post-BSW clinical experience in Mental Health and Addictions
- Screening and risk assessment skills, including suicide risk assessment
- Ability to navigate and de-escalate situations and offer crisis support
- Experience working with the unhoused community
- Group facilitation skills
- Ability to use motivational interviewing skills and engage with clients/families
- Knowledge of community resources and program development methods
- Knowledge of recovery-oriented practice and client-centered care
- Knowledge of social determinants of health and its importance to decision formulation
- Knowledge and experience with a trauma-informed care approach
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
- Casual Full-time Assignment; 75 hours biweekly
- Approximately 1 year term
- 65% of this position requires travel to provide outreach within the community
$42.01 hourly
