Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Care Worker to join our team at WJS Canada. As a key member of our care team, you will provide support and assistance to individuals in our care, ensuring their physical, emotional, and social needs are met.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and plan for individuals in our care, documenting and implementing program evaluations.
  • Provide life skills training, including meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care skills, and personal finance, and implement personal service plans.
  • Assist with activities of daily living, such as hygiene, grooming, and toileting.
  • Participate in various activities in accordance with care plans.
  • Recognize, analyze, and respond to potential emergency situations, such as aggressive behavior, in accordance with our Behavior Safety Plan.
  • Administer medication in accordance with established policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Assist with case management by identifying potential problems and reporting any difficulties.
  • Provide emotional support and feedback to individuals and their families.
  • Transport and assist individuals to attend appointments, shopping, or leisure activities, operating motor vehicles safely and legally.
  • Perform residential maintenance and housekeeping duties, including laundry, sweeping, mopping floors, mowing lawns, inventory, shopping, cleaning equipment, and food services.
  • Maintain reports, such as statistics, logs, and daily activities, relating to individuals in our care.
  • Utilize practices that promote health, welfare, safety, and security of individuals in our care.
Requirements
  • A diploma or degree in one of the humanities, social work, or a related field, or other combinations of education and experience.
  • Minimum of one year recent related experience in child and youth care, or a combination of relevant education and experience, in a community-based setting.
  • Valid BC Driver's License and clean driver's abstract with a reliable, safe vehicle that has appropriate insurance.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid, WHMIS, and Food Hygiene and Sanitation certificates, or ability to obtain within probation period.
  • Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate and/or MANDT and Conflict Resolution Certificate, or ability to obtain within probation period.
  • Physician's note confirming suitability, including immunization records and a negative tuberculosis screening test.
  • Positive behavior supports experience.
