Environmental Liability Underwriter

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Liability Underwriter to join our team at Markel Canada Limited. As a key member of our Environmental Liability line of business, you will be responsible for underwriting and servicing a growing book of business, including risk selection, coverage negotiation, and pricing adequacy on new and renewable business.
Key Responsibilities:- Underwrite and service a growing book of business, including risk selection, coverage negotiation, and pricing adequacy on new and renewable business.
- Review and process changes on existing accounts to maintain compliance with policy conditions and company underwriting philosophy.
- Identify, analyze, and develop sources of new business; assist in developing marketing strategies for new or improved products.
- Partner with peers in other product lines to leverage multi-line opportunities.
- Maintain market intelligence, business insurance trends, and industry knowledge.
- 2-5 years' environmental impairment liability underwriting experience.
- Environmental or science-related educational experience.
- University degree; CIP or FCIP designation.
- Willingness to travel nationally.
- Production-oriented with strong marketing skills and established partnerships with broker/distribution partners.
- Expertise and depth in policy wordings, forms, and applicable coverages.
- Strong administrative skills and highly detail-oriented.
- Excellent presentation skills – comfortable speaking in front of small and large groups.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as a contributing team member.
- Ability to deliver results even when working to meet tight deadlines.
- Strong business acumen and capable of representing the organization externally.
