About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Liability Specialist to join our team at Markel Canada Limited. As a Senior Underwriter, you will play a key role in supporting the development and maintenance of a profitable portfolio of desirable business through marketing, analysis, sales, service, and underwriting in our Environmental Liability line of business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwrite and service a growing book of business, including risk selection, coverage negotiation, and pricing adequacy on new and renewable business, all in accordance with designated underwriting authorities and company guidelines.
  • Review and process changes on existing accounts to maintain compliance with policy conditions and company underwriting philosophy.
  • Identify, analyze, and develop sources of new business; assist in developing marketing strategies for new or improved products.
  • Partner with peers in other product lines to leverage multi-line opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain superior business and service-oriented partnerships with Markel's broker clients through regular attendance at client broker events and industry conferences.
  • Maintain market intelligence, business insurance trends, and industry knowledge.
Requirements
  • 2-5 years' environmental impairment liability underwriting experience.
  • Environmental or science-related educational background.
  • University degree; CIP or FCIP designation.
  • Willingness to travel nationally.
  • Production-oriented with strong marketing skills and established partnerships with broker/distribution partners.
  • Expertise in policy wordings, forms, and applicable coverages.
  • Strong administrative skills and high attention to detail.
  • Excellent presentation skills and strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member, delivering results even when facing tight deadlines.
  • Strong business acumen and capable of representing the organization externally.
