Job SummaryWe are seeking a skilled Mechanical Estimator to join our team. As a Mechanical Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing initial cost estimates for plumbing and HVAC supplies and services, creating pricing schedules, developing bid proposals, and assessing the technical aspects of the project.
Key Responsibilities- Work with a dedicated team to help build, create and develop processes, strategies to create efficiencies.
- Estimate mechanical systems involving ventilation equipment, HVAC, building automation & controls, plumbing, hydronic systems & boilers, storm & sanitary drainage, utilities, fire protection, pumps, storage tanks, compressed air and natural gas systems.
- Prepare detailed, accurate, professional estimates by calculating plumbing and HVAC material quantity take-offs, equipment and labour rates for tender verification.
- Quantify all aspects of the tender document, including tender requirements, written specifications and project drawings.
- Be the technical resource for the sales team and clients.
- Work closely with the PMs and Foreman to hand off information about pricing and strategy.
- Manage relationships with vendors and negotiate pricing.
- Prepare submittals and review for conformance with design.
- Work closely with estimators from all disciplines to create a complete estimate for the sales team and client.
- Take ownership of your role, responsibilities, duties, and team; take appropriate action with minimal direction.
- Assist a cross-functional team for submitting costs.
- Communicate directly with clients to understand their needs.
- Generate solutions to meet client needs.
- Clearly articulate design, material and labour to PMs and field representatives.
- Prepare post-project costing analysis.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from a Canadian University with 5+ years in design and estimating.
- Basic understanding of building code and Mechanical design.
- Proven ability to read drawings/submittals using AutoCad, Excel and PDF editors.
- Outstanding communication, negotiation, and time-management skills.
