Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Support Specialist to join our team at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. As an integral member of our school community, you will provide support to students with exceptional needs, working collaboratively with teaching and other professional staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and students with developmental disabilities
  • Participate in pool programs, academic support, and implement special programs
  • Support deaf/hard of hearing or visually impaired students, physiotherapy exercises, and stretches
  • Modify programs and support learning for students with learning disabilities, and speech/language issues
  • Perform outside yard duties, lifting, toileting, and/or pool duties
Requirements
  • Community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of related experience with school-aged special needs children
  • Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C
  • Completed Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, TCI, and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training
Preferred Qualifications
  • DSW preferred
  • Autism experience
  • Assistive Technology
  • Catheterization (training will be provided)
  • Behaviour Modification
  • Behaviour Management Systems
  • NVCI required
  • Sign Language (ASL)
  • Experience supporting deaf/blind students
  • PIC Symbols
  • Experience programming for autistic students
  • Crisis Intervention
  • Computer Skills
  • CPR and First Aid
  • Prepared to assist with toileting/lifting
  • Poll duties - direct supervision in swimming program required
  • Experience with standing frames, AFOs (braces), Hoyer Lift, Communication aides i.e., touch talkers
  • Yard duty
