Job Title: Educational Assistant - Special Needs

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Educational Assistant to join our team at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. As an integral member of our school community, you will provide support to students with exceptional needs, promoting their academic and personal growth.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will possess a community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent, and a minimum of 1-2 years of related experience with school-aged special needs children. You will work collaboratively with teaching and other professional staff to provide individualized support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental disabilities, and other exceptional needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and developmental disabilities in academic and daily living skills
  • Participate in pool programs, academic support, and implementing special programs
  • Assist students with learning disabilities, speech/language issues, and other exceptional needs
  • Perform yard duties, lifting, toileting, and/or pool duties as required
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to develop and implement individualized education plans
Requirements:
  • Community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent
  • Minimum 1-2 years of related experience with school-aged special needs children
  • Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C
  • Completed Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, TCI, and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training
