Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Educational Support Specialist to join our team at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. As an integral member of our school community, you will provide support to students with exceptional needs, working collaboratively with teaching and other professional staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities
  • Support students with autism spectrum disorders, behavior management programs, and developmental delays
  • Participate in pool programs, academic support, and implementing special programs
  • Assist students with learning disabilities, speech/language issues, and other exceptional needs
  • Perform outside yard duties, lifting, toileting, and/or pool duties as required
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will possess a community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent, and a minimum of 1-2 years of related experience working with school-aged special needs children. Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C is required, and Behaviour Modification training is an asset. Please ensure that you include copies of your diploma(s) and/or certificates that are applicable to the qualifications of an Educational Assistant.

Working Conditions

This is a casual, on-call position at various Elementary and Secondary schools within the board, as needed. Effective September 1, 2024, a casual employee who has not worked at least (5) assignments during a school year shall be removed from the casual list and required to reapply, unless otherwise agreed by the Employer.
