We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at the City of Hamilton. As a Registered Nurse, you will provide professional nursing care to residents in a long-term care setting, working closely with the Director of Nursing, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities- Provide nursing care to residents in accordance with administrative policies, physicians' orders, and established standards.
- Assess residents' conditions, recognizing and interpreting symptoms and signs, and institute remedial health measures as needed.
- Supervise and direct nursing care given by Registered Practical Nurses and Personal Support Workers.
- Participate in medication administration, supervise medication administration by R.P.N. staff, and ensure safekeeping of drug and narcotic keys.
- Develop and maintain up-to-date MDS Assessments, Resident Assessment Protocols (RAPS), and corresponding Resident Care Plans.
- Ensure accurate and complete records of nursing observations and care.
- Assist in maintaining a physical and psycho-social environment that meets the needs of residents.
- Participate in in-service education of nursing personnel and assist in nursing research.
- Direct and supervise the work of other nursing personnel, including Registered Practical Nurses and Personal Support Workers.
- Must be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Demonstrated experience in Long Term Care, with understanding of the Long Term Care Homes Act & Regulations, is preferable.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with RAI – MDS is considered essential.
- Experience in completing electronic documentation using PointClick Care would be an asset.
- Demonstrated competency in completing computer documentation is required.
- Demonstrated ability to observe and follow adopted standards, policies, directives, and orders of the College of Nurses of Ontario as they relate to the Registered Nurse.
- Demonstrated leadership skills in planning, coordinating, and supervising the work of other nursing personnel.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, decision-making, and assessment skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and co-operatively in a multi-disciplinary situation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations as it relates to the position.
The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, providing care to residents in a long-term care setting. The schedule will be as follows: evenings, 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
