Finance Officer: Senior Financial Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Finance Officer to join our team at The University of British Columbia. This role plays a critical part in the administration of complex research grants and specific purpose funded projects, ensuring compliance with agency guidelines and university policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpreting agency guidelines and university policies to ensure compliance
- Preparing invoices and financial statements for sponsoring agencies
- Overseeing reconciliation of grants and projects, including reviewing and maintaining budgets and initiating collections of funds due to the university
- Creating awards tasks in Workday to track progress and monitor invoicing and financial statement preparation
- Reviewing supplier invoices for payments to advance funds to collaborating institutions
- Reviewing expenditures and accounting journals for appropriateness
- Creating new subrecipients in Workday to facilitate advancing of funds to collaborating institutions
- Reviewing cash receipts, EFT, and wire payments for correct allocation to grants and projects
- Updating grant manager role assignments in Workday
- Preparing accounting journals to transfer or refund expired funds
- Assisting in over expenditure monitoring of grants and projects
- Providing training assistance to the university research community
About You:
- A high school graduation plus diploma in accounting or payroll CPA level 2, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Four years of related experience, with willingness to respect diverse perspectives and commitment to enhancing awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion
Benefits:
This position offers an estimated annual salary of $56,928 - $62,616 CAD based on a monthly compensation range of $4,739.00 - $5,102.00 CAD. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including extended health and dental insurance, life insurance, retirement savings plan, and paid time off.
