Atlantic Central is currently seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join its team in Halifax, NS.

About Us: We are the trade association for credit unions in Atlantic Canada, providing a wide range of services and competitive financial products to support credit union success. The Role: As part of the Legal Services team, you will provide legal, policy, and compliance services to Atlantic Central and LSM. You will draft and review legal agreements, resolutions, by-laws, and other documents on behalf of the company, ensuring their legal interests are appropriately represented and protected.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drafts and reviews legal agreements, resolutions, by-laws, and other documents to ensure legal interests are represented and protected.
  • Develops and updates legal templates and precedents.
  • Conducts legal research and analysis and works with external counsel as necessary to provide legal opinions and advice.
  • Monitors, reviews, and analyzes legislation affecting company operations, providing advice and drafting provisions relating to legislative matters.
  • Develops, recommends, and manages the Legal Services Department's annual business goals and budget.
  • Supervises and coordinates the activities of the Legal Services summer student.
  • Collects and organizes corporate and contractual information, managing the company-wide document and contract management systems.
  • Assists with research for developing and drafting corporate policies, procedures, and practices, in consultation with other departments.

Requirements: A law degree from a recognized institution, licensed and a member in good standing with the Law Society in one of the four Atlantic provinces, and 2-5 years of relevant experience. Salary: $102,485 - $120,570 annually, based on experience and qualifications.

What We Offer: A permanent full-time position with flexible working arrangements, including personal days and remote work options. Occasional travel within the Atlantic Provinces may be required.
