Job Summary

This is a summer student position based out of the Acheson facility, with occasional travel to other McAsphalt facilities in Western Canada. The Health and Safety Assistant will be a key member of the McAsphalt HSE&Q Team, responsible for building a culture of excellence and awareness in health and safety.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development and execution of work procedures and make health, safety, and environmental (HSE&Q) recommendations.
  • Collaborate with the Regional Specialist and Facility Managers to prepare, maintain, and update plant-specific HSE&Q policies and manuals.
  • Develop methods to drive continuous improvement of HSE&Q practices and ensure compliance with all HSE&Q regulations.
  • Provide work direction and training to management and plant-level employees on technical support for environmental and safety-related controls during projects and maintenance activities.

Requirements

  • Completion or working towards a designation (CRSP, NCSO) or bachelor's degree in health, safety, or environmental field or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated HSE work experience.
  • Thorough working understanding of Provincial and Canadian Occupational Health and Safety laws and regulations.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communications skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel at the intermediate level.
  • Proficient in English.
  • Good interpersonal/coaching and strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledgeable in the areas involving government regulations and worker's compensation rules and regulations.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driver's abstract.
